The House That Whispers

 

When the Harper family moved into the old Victorian house at the end of Willow Lane, they were enchanted by its grandeur and history. The air was thick with the scent of aged wood and forgotten stories, and the creaking floorboards seemed to sigh underfoot. But as night fell, a heavy stillness settled over the house, broken only by the occasional whisper that slithered through the darkened halls.

In a moment of clarity, Maya remembered the locket. She clasped it tightly in her hand, feeling the weight of the girl’s sorrow. “I’m here,” she cried out, her voice rising above the din. “I will listen!”

Silence fell suddenly, as if the house held its breath. The whispers faded into a haunting melody, sorrowful yet serene, wrapping around her like a comforting embrace. In that stillness, Maya understood—she was meant to carry their stories, to share their pain.

But the house demanded more. The price of its secrets was high, and as the walls closed in around her, Maya realized she was becoming part of its story, forever bound to the whispers of the past.
