THE AMITYVILLE HORROR

 The Amityville Horror

On November 13, 1974, in the small town of Amityville, New York, the quiet neighborhood was shattered by a horrifying crime. Ronald DeFeo Jr., aged 23, shot and killed six members of his family while they slept. His parents and four younger siblings were found face down in their beds, all murdered with a .35 caliber rifle. DeFeo claimed that he heard voices urging him to kill his family, though many believe drug abuse and mental illness played a role. He was convicted of the murders and sentenced to six consecutive life terms.

But the horror didn’t end there.

Just over a year later, in December 1975, George and Kathy Lutz, along with their three children, moved into the DeFeo house at 112 Ocean Avenue, unaware of its tragic history. Within days, they began experiencing strange and terrifying phenomena. The family reported hearing voices, strange smells, and unexplainable cold drafts throughout the house. They claimed to see ghostly apparitions, with George waking up every night at 3:15 AM—the exact time the DeFeo murders occurred.

Green slime oozed from the walls, and doors would violently open and close by themselves. Kathy claimed she would feel a force touching her at night, and their young daughter befriended an eerie imaginary entity she called “Jodie,” which she said took the form of a demonic pig.

After 28 days, the Lutz family fled the house, leaving all their possessions behind. They would later recount their terrifying ordeal in a book titled “The Amityville Horror,” which was adapted into a movie.

Skeptics have argued that much of the Lutz family’s story was exaggerated or fabricated, but the eerie history of the house remains undeniable. The combination of a gruesome mass murder and the paranormal claims that followed have solidified the Amityville house as one of the most infamous haunted locations in modern history.
